January 2023No response to housing crisis pleaEurobodalla Mayor Mathew Hatcher is still waiting for a response from Dominic Perrottet, after writing to the NSW Premier earlier this month requesting urgent assistance with the homelessness crisis at Moruya's North Head campground. “The NSW Government is responsible for crisis and social housing, and they must step in and help us solve this issue,” he said. The Mayor managed to meet briefly with the Premier in Moruya on Friday 20 January, where he again raised the matter.

Thumbs up for Council's rapid response trialIt turns out no military choppers were needed to curb Australia Day holiday out-of-control litter. Instead, two men and a Council van - along with some extra bin collections and toilet cleaning - were more than adequate to deal with garbage at Eurobodalla's tourist hot spots. During the Christmas and New Year holiday, areas of Batemans Bay and Narooma saw trash overflowing garbage bins and public toilets not opened, a situation at the time described by Council's general manager Warwick Winn as unacceptable. Working with our cleaning and waste contractors to increase bin numbers and emptying and provide extra toilet cleaning, for the Australia Day holiday we also put on two extra Council staff - our rapid response team - to keep an eye on things, report problems, and talk to anyone and everyone with the slightest concern. It worked. We did not receive a single telephone call or complaint about rubbish or toilets, and our team on the ground say comments by visitors and residents were upbeat and positive. We'll repeat our rapid response team trial during the Easter holidays.
Serve yourself - easy online tennis bookingsWe've made booking Eurobodalla's tennis courts a whole lot easier thanks to online booking. With courts located at Batemans Bay, Malua Bay, Broulee, Bodalla, Tuross Head, Dalmeny and Narooma, simply book online, receive a code to enter at the court gate and you're ready to play. It's a whole lot easier than the previous system where players had to book through the local shop or servo, pay cash, and collect and return the key. Read more... In other tennis news, dozens of people dusted off their rackets for a bit of a hit with free court access last weekend. Despite stinking hot Saturday temperatures and rain on Sunday, Eurobodalla Plays Tennis attracted dozens of players, including 37 first-timers. Local tennis clubs hosted a range of activities for their members and the public: 30 people attended the Malua Bay Tennis Club event, including four new members. At Tuross the new shade facility was opened in front of 40 players. Pickleball was a hit with over 50 people visiting the courts at Batemans Bay, while the Broulee club hosted a 'hot shots' demonstration. The day was a tremendous success and all the clubs, Council and Tennis Australia agree this should become an annual event. Moruya Library's bush oasis blooming
